Sisterlocks® and Microlocks are both small, permanent loc styles, but they differ primarily in installation technique, size uniformity, and regulation.
About Sisterlocks®:
Sisterlocks®are tiny uniformed locks that are the result of a precise, trademarked parting grid and a specialized tool used to place the hair into its locking formation. The Sisterlocks®method does not require the use of waxes, gels, or any additional hair products. The small size and parting grid form easily styled locks similar to how you would style your natural hair.
About Microlocks:
Microlocks offer more flexibility, are typically larger than Sisterlocks®, and can be started by using different techniques and without a rigid, trademarked parting grid.
About Traditional Starter Locs:
Traditional starter locs are the foundational first phase of growing permanent locs. They use medium-to-large section sizes and techniques like comb coils, two-strand twists, or braids. This process generally requires at least 3 to 4 inches of natural hair to hold the sections securely as they mature.
With whatever loc style you decide to go with, professionalism is stressed at every stage and this begins with your consultation. The consultation is a structured conversation about loc style choice where your service provider can assess your specific hair care needs and provide guidance on beginning your hair journey.
These permanent loc styles require regular retightening/ retwisting maintenance every 4-6 weeks as your natural hair grows. Traditional loc maintenance however can be pushed out further depending required maintenance or desired aesthetic.
